Remember the legendary battle of Thermopylae where Leonidas' 300 Spartans faced Xerxes' Immortals? The heroic Greeks fought valiantly but the odds (and math) was not in their favour. Unfortunately, the Baloch, being an Iranian people, were on the villain's side!
Makran was a Satrapy in the Achaemenid empire. The Baloch were part of the elite Immortal Forces of Cyrus the Great, Darius and Xerxes. While anyone could serve in the Persian army only those with Iranian ancestry could serve in the Immortal Forces because it was also the Imperial Guard. It was finally disbanded in 1979 after the Iranian Revolution and replaced by the Revolutionary Guard.
Baloch satraps led the charge into Sindh and western Punjab for Darius the Great. May be that explains the Punjabi dislike for anything Balochi? Sounds trivial isn't it, except that, it isn't! We will see how it plays out through the centuries.
Ever wondered why a Punjab district is called Dera Ghazi Khan? Well, the Sultan of Multan was unable to manage his trans-Indus possessions, so he invited the Baloch warlord Malik Sohrab Dodai and assigned three territories as Jagir. His three sons Ghazi, Ismail and Fateh inherited the territories and founded the Deras named after them. After the decline of the Mughal empire the Sikh army would invade D G Khan.
